Non-Immigrant Visas
Student Visas
The State Department makes every effort to prioritize visa appointments for students. Students who have been accepted to study at accredited educational institutions in the U.S. must present an approved form I-20 and proof of SEVIS payment prior to obtaining a student visa. Anyone traveling to the United States for academic study (including European Union citizens) must obtain a student visa prior to travel.
All applicants for a student visa must present the necessary and completed application form(s), passport, fee and the form I-20 (demonstrating acceptance at a U.S. institution). They must also be prepared to show:
Transcripts and diplomas from other educational institutions attended;
Scores from standardized tests required by the U.S. institution (e.g., TOEFL);
Financial evidence that the applicant or his/her sponsor has sufficient funds to cover the tuition and living expenses during the period of intended study.
