Ambassador Reddick and Gabonese government officials toast to U.S.- Gabonese relations. |
The US Embassy celebrated the 232nd anniversary of the Independence of the United States in an American fashion. On July 4, 2008, Ambassador Eunice Reddick opened her residence in Gabon for the celebration. On June 26, 2008, the festivities took place at the Voice of America Station, which celebrates 12 years of operation in Sao Tome and Principe in 2008. Guests in both countries included American citizens, senior government officials, members of the business community, artists, and other friends of the United States. They were all treated to an American-style meal, as well as performances by a local choir and the children of John Corrao, the Embassy's Economic Officer.
At each celebration, Ambassador Reddick’s speech highlighted the commitment of the US Government to help the people of Gabon and Sao Tome and Principe to ensure their security, develop their economy, and consolidate their democracy. The Ambassador noted the importance of education and the participation of women in reaching these goals.
The success of the events was due in part to the generosity of American companies active in Gabon. The US Embassy Libreville thanks the following sponsors for their support: Armor Group, Coca Cola, Marathon, ExxonMobil (Oil Libya), Vaalco, Nextel Communications (Celtel), and Citibank.
